ASA Files Federal Appeal to Reclassify Medical Cannabis; Calif. Supreme Court to Review Dispensary Cases; Maryland Considering Comprehensive Medical Cannabis Bill; Ariz. Gov. Restarts Dispensary Program; ACTION ALERT: Medical Cannabis Week 2/13-17
While patients across the country commend the Maryland Medical Marijuana Work Group's effort to create medical cannabis laws workable for Maryland; we respectfully oppose both of the proposed models: HB 1158 and HB 1024. Both bills are heavily restrictive and, if passed, will create unimplementable programs much like the medical marijuana laws in New Jersey, Washington, D.C., and Delaware, where patients are still left without safe access and are still subject to arrest, prosecution, and jail time. Patients deserve a right to medical cannabis, and HB 1024 and HB 1158 will fail. Ask your legislators to co-sponsor and pass Delegate Glenn's House Bill 15, which takes a reasonable approach to legislating medical cannabis and is based on best practices of medical cannabis states from across the country.
The Medical Marijuana Regulation, Control, and Taxation Act of 2012 (MMRCT) will establish a state bureau to create and enforce uniform regulations for medical marijuana cultivation and provision.
Join Americans for Safe Access Chapters and Affiliates across the country in celebrating Medical Marijuana Week by standing up for our right to safe access. Take time each day to participate in the week of action outlined below.

National Action Alert: Urge Obama to End Federal Interference!
Our voice must be heard! Ask Obama to work with our community in order to develop policies that work! Rather than using scarce federal resources to interfere with state sanctioned medical cannabis laws, urge Obama to work with state officials to harmonize state and federal law thereby legitimizing the medical cannabis community.

National Action Alert: Urge Your Governor to Sign onto the DEA Rescheduling Petition Today!!
In the past year, the Justice Department has taken a very aggressive stance on medical cannabis, using dispensary raids and threats to landlords and public officials as a means to undermine the laws of several medical cannabis states. Notably, U.S. Attorneys sent intimidating letters to several governors in an attempt to stop them from implementing safe and sensible regulations. Enough is enough!
